Recap:
Unlike 2009, the weather did not cooperate. Though there was an outcry from many to cancel the tournament with the prospects of Hurricane Earl steaming up the coast a serious threat to bust up the party. The show went on as planned, more or less. The scheduled games for Friday and Saturday were rained out as Earl took blew out as fast as he blew in. The tournament directors spent the early morning hours, (6:00 am departure) working the fields to get games played. At the managers meeting the schedule was re-worked on the hood of a pickup truck in the Veterans field parking lot and games began in ernest on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunatly, the results page was lost as it was either swept out to sea or misplaced due to exhaustion.
Recap:
The only resembalnce to the 2009 tournament were the results. The Framingham Orioles claimed their second of back to back titles, this time defeating a game Ct Top Hats team. Day one and two rainouts forced the semi finalist to play three games on Sunday to make it to the Monday finals.
The 14 team tournament concluded on Labor Day at Veterans Field in Chatham as Framingham erased an early Top Hat lead to claim the title.
If you could order weather for a tournament, and there was one 5 star entry on the menu, we picked it. Four days of sunshine and upper 70's and a cool ocean breeze will go down as the best weekend ever for the CCC. As expected there were some tremendous matchups and close games all weekend long. Both semi finals decided by a run, and the final was a tight 3-1 win win for the 2009 Champions, Framingham Orioles.

Based on some of the results, some tremendous baseball was played this year on Labor Day weekend at the CCC. Waltham Red Sox sore 5 in the 9th to edge the Black Sox. Defending Champs Club Franz tie The Black Sox in 11 innings (1-1), Top Hats tie the Red Sox 2-2 in 12, and a walk off home run leads the Stars over the Orioles 1-0 in 10 innings.
Recap: Top Hats win their first CCC Championship with a 12-6 win over the Central Mass Stars 12-6. Top Hats Rob Ayala had 2 hits and 3 rbi (one of the hits was a tremendous bomb over the right center fence in the 2nd) Would have cleared the scoreboard at Whitehouse field. Bobby Pagel had 2 hits and 3 rbi (bases clearing triple in the 6th put the nail in the coffin). He also made one of the best plays at short. Dove to his left (full out)...got up and threw the guy out at first. John Kroeger had 2 hits scored 3 runs and pitched a complete game. Those are the highlights and the stars of the game. Team effort all the way.

Despite rain outs on Friday night, and a sprinkler incident on Saturday night, it was another great weekend at the CapeCodClassic. Thing don't always go as exactly scripted and planning for every potential problem in impossible. So you do the best you can and hope everyone understands that we try to do the right thing for the tournament.
Recap: Club Franz repeats as CCC Champion with a 6-2 victory over the Black Sox in Monday's Championship Finals. The Rockies led 2-0 going into the 8th inning - a true pitcher's duel between their own Mark Nickerson and O'Connor of the Blacksox, when Vermont's John Luter hit a two-out, two-run home run to square things up. Club Franz came storming back in the bottom half of the 8th, scoring 4 runs powered by Robby Linn, Jon Tenney, Eli Munkholm, Ryan Radabaugh & the legendary Franz Strassmann. Nickerson finished it up in the 9th to get the complete game victory, spinning a gem against a Blacksox offense that had previously been averaging over 10 runs a game. In the Bourne Semi finals, Club Franz defeated a much improved Rockies 8-6. The Black Sox run ruled the Rangers in the Sagamore Semi Final.

It took the rainiest summer on record to force the first cancellation of CapeCodClassic games. The Sunday wash-out resulted in a day of 3 inning shoot-outs to determine the division champions. Several games went to extra innings, where the extra frames started with the bases loaded, no outs. The Astros versus Stars game went 6 innings with the Astros coming back with two runs in both the 4th and 5th inning to tie the score. It was an exciting day of ball.
Recap: In a Classic Championship game pitcher's duel, Eli Munkholm and Pete Lucido from Club Franz outlasted Rob Monti and Brian Cassidy of the Scituate Tides 3-0 in 11 innings. Monti threw a blank slate through 8, but gave way to Brian Cassidy with a leg injury in the 9th inning. Greg Davis of Club Franz led off the 11th with a single, followed by consecutive hits from Ryan Radabaugh, Eli Munkholm, Mickey Garcia and Rob Linn to push across the 3 runs. Hats off to both teams for a crisp, well-played game where pitching and defense ruled, reminiscent of a 1970's Ali-Frazier Heavyweight Bout. RS

Bourne Div: The Knights finished 3-0-1, but needed to wait out the last game scheduled on Sunday to see if they would play another day. The Rangers knew before the game, they must win and hope for an earlier Knights loss or tie to advance. The 3-0 Black Sox needed a win and their in their second finals. Rangers beat the Sox 3-0, advancing the Knights. The Black Sox allowed a ridiculous 5 runs in 4 games. Sagamore Div: The Thunder faced their old foe the Twins on Friday night and neither team would blink in an 8-8 tie. Bourne Div: The Stars finished the divisional play with a perfect 4-0 record, but had to sweat it out for the results of the Sunday night game between the 2-1 Black Sox and the 3-0 Orioles.
